Knowing I have been able to twice orate our views at the Combined Authority Board; be apart of COVID-19 Recovery work; influence our hopes within the #WM2041 Climate and Environment plan for a greener West Midlands; help write a Black Lives Matter letter which starkly demonstrated the need for change; co-produce a radical Manifesto, which every Mayoral candidate will see at the heart of the 2021 campaign; be part of many CA events prior to Lockdown and attend two Birmingham 2022 workshops – of which was the catalyst for my appointment to the organising committee as a Administrator for Ceremonies, Culture and Queen’s Baton Relay – a post I began just this week: certainly proves the quest as stated worked and reiterates the true power of such engagement.
Our 2nd year begins from September 1st and with it comes the aim of a more structured, but greater engaged body which expands our reach and opens the door of opportunity, to many more youth representatives across our 3 Cities and 4 Towns.
Following an open invitation to all 2019-20 members, to join a formal board, which integrates brilliantly into the CA’s overarching objectives; become part of a community element, which lets those who can’t fully commit, to still engage on projects from the outside – amongst a much bigger group - or who by choice wanted to say a fond farewell: I can today confirm my appointment to that formal board, for the 2020/21 YCA year!
I massively thank all at The Beatfreeks Collective and the WMCA for their personal support, guidance and sense of opportunity over the last 12 months; particularly after I formally came back to Wolverhampton in December – a decision which couldn’t have worked out more positively.
I give much love to all who are heading to pastures new and express my joy, at continuing to work with many other colleagues; whose passion for young people has made our home much stronger.
UK politics folks may still seem like a lava flow, but the one thing will most certainly not change – is the will, desire and enthusiasm of my generation; to shake things up, to state our honest minds and collectively make the West Midlands, even greater still.
And to play such a firm part – at 22 years young, is a privilege – of which it’s humbleness will never cease!
