I welcome the statement issued jointly today by Wolverhampton Wanderers and the club’s Fan Advisory Board, following a meeting yesterday which has seen a number of positive and significant commitments be made after the Season Ticket Price increase announcement on 23rd May.
Wolves has always been a club, with values of family and community right at its heart. These were undoubtedly undermined and severely damaged by the club’s hierarchy a fortnight ago and I am glad to see those in power to have reflected and responded to the Fan Advisory Board in a constructive way.
This is nothing that every Wolves fan least deserves, with us stagnating on the pitch for the both Men’s and Women’s through a lack of investment, alongside having a tired looking Molineux Stadium and there collective difficulties in progressing many of the important parts of the Equality agenda, which I and my colleagues on the Equality Advisory Group have been working on with dedication.
I hope that this was a moment which Jeff Shi and his team will continue to reflect deeply, on what was originally a catastrophic misjudgment through a formal apology, of which disappointingly hasn’t come forth in today’s communication.
I am hopeful that will come in time and what this two weeks has shown, is the power of fans collective power, against those with vested interests. I am still of the belief however, that it would be beneficial for all concerned if Mr Shi immediately stepped down as Chairman, of which allows Wolves to move forward afresh after 8 years of his leadership.
I give firm appreciation to everyone on the FAB for there work and in particular, to Lyndsey Harris-Stephenson as EAG Chair and Dan Warren as Wolves 1877 Supporters’ Trust Chair for all they have done.
As a result of the commitments made by the club - not least including a Freeze on Adult Prices for 2025/2026, a Reversal on Under 14 increases and a Fan Engaged Review of Junior Prices, I have today renewed my Season Ticket and look forward to discussing the future of fan representation at Wolves, with EAG colleagues and others in the coming weeks.
I have been proud and humbled to be a small part of speaking up for other fans and be a visible presence at events, not least the Pride Marches, which includes here in Wolverhampton again this coming Saturday. I will seek to increase that involvement as time goes on and do so as a greater critical friend.
Let’s hope that these events was just a once off and that our proud club, never again drags itself towards disconnecting with a fanbase, who lives and breaths of the DNA of an institution and city - which has an historic past and through the power of Wolves, a progressive future.
