STATEMENT - 2021 LOCAL ELECTIONS

An Update on the Selection Process!

It feels good, that The Labour Party's National Executive Committee (NEC) - did on Wednesday July 1st 2020, formally give the go-ahead to resume some party activities, following what has been the most scary and uncertain of several months in modern times.

This will now enable the party here in the City of Wolverhampton, to shortly resume the selection process via virtual means; for what will be a very crucial set of elections to City of Wolverhampton Council on May 6th 2021 and allow us, to collectively campaign for the more progressive future this great home of mine, that continues to be worked towards.

On the suspension of the process made on March 13th – of which feels a million years ago, I confirmed that I had been shortlisted for what I thought was to the final ward selection which should have been that very evening. It is a ward, which I cannot presently name for various reasons.

With it, that unamable ward's selection I hope will be pretty soon and I will shortly reaffirm, that I very much intend to still run to seek the party nomination.

As stated above, it was originally thought that the unamble ward would be the final selection, that Labour would have to undertake. However, the resignations in March of Wolverhampton North East MP Jane Stevenson from Tettenhall Wightwick, following her election in December 2019 and Caroline Siarkiewicz from Heath Town, due to her promotion to CEO of the Money and Pensions Service, very much means the contrary.

Therefore if I am unsuccessful in the unamable ward, I shall very much look to seek selection within Heath Town and Tettenhall Wightwick – the latter of which I lost, by just 1 vote in February 11th’s original selection for and I believe my chances within any of the wards are on a positive scale.

No doubt, the wider recovery to Novel Coronavirus - to give it’s full title from the World Health Organisation, is the big mission that the Council will predominately focus on; knowing of the wholescale change it has had on our lives since March.

It couldn’t be clearer at the top of that, has to the true ending of austerity politics - that has caused the greatest possible chaos and destroyed support services in place under the previous Labour administration. A substantial increase in Council funding, is a demand and a requirement.

But of course, the peskiness of potholes on our roads, the horrible and constant scourge of fly-tipping, the lack of participation in our electoral system along with the continuation of the £4 Billion in development; happening or about to begin right across our city, making the best of the next phase of Brexit and a huge desire, for a type of politics that is not just bold, but is co-operative and engages with resident sincerely: will always remain towards the top of my agenda.

In one final note, the way in which Wolverhampton has pulled its collective weight, as a united and brisk team in supporting all those, who felt the force of COVID-19 and will continue to do so, for a sustained period is one the city should feel proud of. The number of organisations and individuals support, along with the massive number of financial contributions made, further demonstrates the strength of this city's amazing people and those at it's very heartbeat.

It’s that spirit, collaboration and grattiude that must continue and if I achieve the dream, of being chosen to run and then to serve, I will help to do just that, with the humbleness needed by all more than ever: to make this great home, even greater still.

Further updates will come when appropriate and I hope in due course.
