2022 Molineux Sleepout

Kashmire Hawker • 20 September 2022

Here's why I'm for a 2nd year braving the elements and Sleeping in a Molineux stand for two extraordinary Charities!

For a 2nd consecutive year, I am most honoured and humbled to be partaking in the annual Molineux Sleepout at Wolverhampton Wanderers world famous stadium, being held on Friday November 18th 2022.

Wolverhampton is a city; which through many a crazy decision by Government, has and will continue to face extraordinary challenge within it's residents. We are in the top 20 deprived areas the UK and according to The End Fuel Poverty Commission; my city could have the highest Fuel Poverty rate this winter.

We are alarmingly also 13th in ratings for Education Deprivation, 8th for Income Deprivation, 5th for Youth Violence in the West Midlands and 6th for Employment Deprivation.

And like so many cities around the country, Wulfrunians experience high levels of inequalities which sadly impacts Unemployment rates, Food Poverty statistics and resident's Mental Health.

Knowing we are in 2022 and live in the 6th richest nation on the planet, these numbers should both give a heart attack to all those seeking to improve our society and make everyone - regardless of political opinion to take a step back and ask themselves: WHAT CAN I DO, to help tackle such issues HEAD ON?

That is what the Sleepout is all about and since it began in 2019, has raised more than £115,000 for the Wolverhampton Wanderers Foundation, who are Wolves official charity and The Good Shepherd, who based opposite The Golden Palace support thousands of families with the basics of food and clothing - which has included my family in years gone by.

In being a 25 year old, who on many occasions during the mid 2010's has had to scrape together penny's to get by and who at present, is in a household which after next week will have limited income coming into it after my role at Birmingham 2022 ends, makes me determined more than ever, to help make sure that the experiences that I've been through, don't occur for fellow Wulfrunians now or in the future.

Raising £735 in 2021 for November 12th 2021's Sleepout was one of the proudest honour's of my life, knowing how much of a difference such funding made and I would if possible, would love to match or even beat it.

Please donate whatever you can via https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/kashmiresleepsout and together, help win BY FAR THE BIGGEST fixture of the season and make it a lifechanging moment, for so many across my city who need a helping hand.

Massive Thanks!
