Following a meeting on Tuesday November 10th, 2020, I am utterly thrilled, to announce that I will be standing as one of two Labour Party candidate's and hopefully too for The Co-Operative Party: for The City of Wolverhampton Council Ward of Tettenhall Wightwick, on Thursday May 6th 2021 Election!
In July 2019 - at just 21 years old, I formally began the process to seek to be a candidate, of The Labour Party and hopefully Co-Operative Party for the next set of Local Authority Elections - originally on May 7th 2020 but now delayed until the date; due to the Coronavirus pandemic within my city of residence: the City of Wolverhampton. Knowing the process finished a year and a quarter later and now aged 23, shows the reality when a global pandemic strikes.
I am standing alongside excellent local member and activist Don Gwinnett - whose experience will enable me to develop greatly.
The beauty of Wightwick - whether through the splendre of Smestow Valley, the Transport Heritage Centre and through it's incredible charity's including Compton Hospice, the ward's three schools and huge number of incredible businesses; particularly it's Independent Cafe's and Pub's, whether in Compton, Finchfield and its heart of Upper Green: gives the area much possibility.
The Conservatives however, have failed Wolverhampton's most well off area for too long - knowing many folk still struggle to get by day by day and the economic impact of Coronavirus, is costing money and jobs. And knowing of that failure, along with Tory cuts which have ripped the city apart, that I feel Labour, has the chance make some serious inroads.
2021 gives us a free hit – to increase our vote and run a campaign that considers what a decent, compassionate alternative for Wightwick can look like. Of course, such a campaign may have to take a different form, so reaching out through Social Media particularly as well as the wonder of Zoom Calls to engage are two important options. And knowing of many students, I’m sure they’d be happy to come for a session or two, seeing damage to The Tories, can certainly be achieved.
Being in Labour since 2015, has given me energy to not just to campaign on the kind of future this city deserves and help win elections, but ensures a different future is possible; that enables ambitions to be fulfilled and that more tolerant, compassionate and progressive politics, can become the norm.
Knowing that Wolverhampton has £4 Billion+ investment across this city, demonstrates we have a positive story; one of which I will defend from head to toe. Stating I was 1 vote off selection in the original February meeting, as well as being part of “the strongest panel that Bushbury South and Low Hill have ever had” gives me great encouragement – for people like me, wanting to represent.
I shall keep you all fully posted, within the coming weeks, knowing of the awesome opportunity and responsibility, of attempting to serve my city come May 2021, in a ward that has the chance to be more Co-Operative, Honest, Progressive and Proud!
